For this test I bought six screen protectors for the iPhone 18 Pro, from a $7 glass up to a $44 glass from the Apple Store. I applied every one myself and checked it against the same list: price per glass, what’s in the box, installation, air bubbles, fit, visibility, Face ID and case compatibility. Then came the hardness test with a brand-new box cutter and a porcelain tile. Finally, I bent every scratched protector. I tested on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but all of these protectors are also available for the regular 18 Pro.
I deliberately skipped a drop test. In my previous drop tests every screen protector shattered, and that’s exactly its job. The glass breaks so the display doesn’t. Every protector here does that. The real differences are in scratches, flexibility and installation.
The result is clear: only two of the six are worth it. And the most expensive one, straight from the Apple Store, is the biggest letdown.

The ESR with Corning glass is also worth buying. It scratches like the others, but it didn’t break when bent, just like the test winner. I clearly advise against the Belkin UltraGlass 2 from the Apple Store.

ROXX advertises Japanese glass that’s supposed to be harder, more scratch-resistant and clearer. You can actually see that it’s clearer, because the image looks a little sharper through it. The box contains three protectors, an alignment tray, wet and dry wipes and dust stickers. Installation is easy. The glass sits at the top of the tray, you drop the iPhone in and pull the tab. Don’t press too hard, or the tab can tear off. There’s a QR code for the instructions. The protector has a black frame and reaches the corners, and you can’t tell it’s there. Face ID works, and every case from my case test fits.
In the hardness test it convinced me. The box cutter left nothing. The tile did leave scratches, but far fewer and fainter ones than on the Torras. You have to look closely, and you can only just feel them with a fingernail. When bent, it was one of only two protectors, together with ESR, that didn’t break.

ESR sells a huge number of screen protectors on Amazon, so I picked their most expensive one on purpose. According to the box, the glass comes from Corning. ESR also promises up to ten times more impact protection than generic protectors, plus an anti-reflective coating, which I’ll test in a separate video. The packaging looks premium with gold accents. Inside are two protectors, an alignment tray with a camera cutout, dust stickers and a cloth. Installation was easy: drop the iPhone in, close the flap, pull the tab. There wasn’t a single bubble in the middle.
There is one catch. A narrow ring of air stays around the edge and keeps coming back after you press it down. The glass seems to be very slightly too large, and it sat a little off-center. It may settle over time, so keep an eye on the Amazon reviews for the 18 Pro. In the hardness test it passed the box cutter, and the tile scratched it just as much as the other protectors. When bent, though, the ESR held. That puts it on the same level as the Japanese glass when it comes to breaking.

Next to ROXX, Torras is usually one of the top models, so I compared the two directly. The pack contains two protectors and an alignment tray with the first protector already loaded, plus wipes and dust stickers, so everything you need. Installation took about three minutes. I did get more air bubbles than with the others and had to push several of them out. After that it looked great. The black frame runs to the edge and past the display, nothing is covered, and you can’t tell a protector is on. Face ID responded instantly.
It passed the box cutter. The tile left clear scratches, noticeably more than on the ROXX Japanese glass. When bent, the scratched Torras broke just like the Belkin. In the end, that cost it the recommendation.

JETech is the cheapest protector in the test, at about $13 for two with no discount. It also comes with two clear camera lens films, which I’d advise against, because they simply look bad once applied. There’s a reason for the low price. Instead of a tray you drop the iPhone into, there’s only a frame that you place on the iPhone, and then you lay the glass in by hand. That usually goes wrong, and it did for me too. On one side the glass had noticeably more space to the edge than on the other. If a case then presses against it, one side gets pushed while the other side leaves a gap for dust. There are no dust stickers at all.
The protector has no black frame, so you can see its edge in the light. It’s exactly the same size as the $44 Belkin. Face ID works. The box cutter left nothing, and the tile left very clear scratches.

Spigen has a good reputation, and the installation lives up to it. The box even includes two alignment trays and a big dust-removal sticker that picks up much more in one go than the small stickers from the others. The method is a little different: peel off the backing first, press down, then ideally wait 30 seconds. There wasn’t a single bubble in the middle, and it worked very well. Less nice is the amount of plastic in the packaging.
The protector has no black frame and is a little smaller than the others, so the gaps to the display edge are fairly wide. You can see the hard edge in the light. Face ID works. Spigen doesn’t promise any special type of glass, and it behaves that way. The box cutter left nothing, and the tile left clear scratches right away, without any pressure. When bent, the protector broke.

I had the highest expectations for the Belkin UltraGlass 2. Apple sells it directly, it costs about $44, and the description sounds impressive: technology developed in Germany, a double ion-exchange process, up to 25 times stronger than conventional protective glass, lithium aluminosilicate glass and drops from up to 2.2 meters. The letdown came when I opened the box. Inside is exactly one protector, an alignment tray, a warranty card and a dry cloth. There’s no wet wipe and no dust stickers. I had to borrow a wet wipe from another box.
Even so, I got two big air bubbles and many tiny ones that were practically impossible to push out. The glass also sat crooked, with less space on one side than the other, even though the tray leaves no room to shift. Without a black frame you can see the edge. Face ID works, and it passed the box cutter. The tile left clearly more scratches than on the ROXX and Torras. Then, when I peeled it off, it broke immediately. If you still want it, have it applied in an Apple Store. If something goes wrong there, they just take a new one off the shelf.

The Japanese glass from ROXX. None of the six protectors survives a porcelain tile with a Mohs hardness of 8 completely unscratched. On the ROXX, though, the scratches are so faint that you have to look closely.
Do you need a screen protector with a black frame?
It’s recommended. The black frame hides the edge of the glass and any air around the rim. Without it you can see the edge in the light, clearly so on the Belkin, JETech and Spigen.
Do these screen protectors work with iPhone 18 Pro cases?
Yes. All the protectors in the test work with normal cases, including every one from my test of the best iPhone 18 Pro cases. Only cases that wrap very far over the display could get in the way.
