I ordered both original Samsung cases for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 directly from Samsung — the Clear Magnet Case for 54.90 euros and the Silicone Magnet Case for 79.90 euros. Over 135 euros for two cases from the company that literally made the phone itself — surely that buys real protection, right? Spoiler: not really.
Clear Magnet Case ($60ish): Huge Box, Not Much Inside
Unboxed, alongside the case itself you get a handful of small extras you’d recognize from any cheap Chinese tempered-glass kit: an alignment slider, a slightly thicker cloth, and small stickers. Nothing close to a premium cleaning cloth you’d expect for this price. You also get two screen protectors included — and I do mean protectors, not tempered glass, and they’re only for the outer front, not the fragile inner foldable display.
The real issue: the case itself doesn’t protect the display at all, since it doesn’t overhang the edges anywhere. That means if the phone drops with just this thin film on it, the display is toast either way. The frame is only half-covered too, with the other side left completely exposed — a drop from almost any angle offers barely any real protection. The one genuinely notable plus: built-in MagSafe magnets, which the Fold 8 itself doesn’t have natively.
Silicone Magnet Case ($85ish): Nearly 80 Euros, No Interior Protection
The pricier silicone case includes the exact same accessories — identical screen protectors, the same alignment tool. The case itself is basically a plastic shell with a thin layer of silicone coating that doesn’t feel nearly as premium as a regular silicone case. For 80 euros, there’s not even any microfiber interior lining — and since the case apparently doesn’t stay on the Fold 8 securely without help, it comes with three extra adhesive pads just to keep it in place. The frame edge here sticks out even more noticeably too, which is genuinely uncomfortable to hold.
One genuine bright spot though: a really strong Ugreen MagSafe charging puck didn’t rip the case off when connecting — so MagSafe itself delivers on its promise here, even if the rest of the case disappoints.
My Verdict
For over 135 euros combined, I expected more than thin film instead of tempered glass, half-open frame coverage, and missing interior protection. The only real value in both cases is the built-in MagSafe — technically solid, but not enough reason to spend this much on the rest.
