ESR sells so many screen protectors on Amazon that it’s hard to keep track. For my iPhone 18 Pro test I deliberately picked their most expensive one, made with glass from Corning. In the end it was one of only two protectors I recommend. It still has one catch, though.
Price and Claims
Two protectors cost about $28 on sale, normally about $33. That’s roughly $14 to $16 per protector, which makes it the second most expensive in the test. That’s a surprise, since ESR is usually known for low prices. The box says „Made with Glass by Corning“, and Corning is a real glass maker. ESR promises up to ten times more impact protection than generic protectors, plus an anti-reflective coating. I’ll test the coating against other anti-glare protectors in a separate video.
Packaging and Installation
The packaging looks premium with its gold accents. Inside are two protectors, an alignment tray with a cutout for the camera, a squeegee, dust stickers and a dry cloth. The dust stickers are a bit small. Installation couldn’t be easier: put the iPhone in the tray, close the flap, press lightly and pull the tab. The result in the middle was perfect, without a single air bubble.
The Catch: An Air Ring
A narrow ring of air stayed around the edge. No matter how often I pressed it down, it kept coming back. The glass seems to be very slightly larger than the others and sat a little off-center. Normally a black frame covers exactly this area. The glass may still settle over time. Keep an eye on the Amazon reviews, but make sure they’re actually for the 18 Pro, because many are still from older iPhone models.
Face ID and Cases
Face ID works without problems, and the glass covers the whole front. Every case from my iPhone 18 Pro case test fits.
The Hardness Test
The box cutter didn’t leave a scratch, but none of the protectors in the test got scratched by it. With the tile, I was curious whether the Corning glass could keep up. The scratches came quickly, couldn’t be wiped away and were clearly noticeable to the touch. I couldn’t tell any difference from the regular protectors. On the ROXX Japanese glass, the scratches were much fainter.
The Bend Test
This is where the ESR convinced me. The Belkin, Torras and Spigen broke instantly along their scratches, while the ESR stayed intact. For breaking behavior, that puts it on the same level as the Japanese glass.
Verdict
The ESR with Corning glass is very easy to install and very break-resistant. It’s no better than regular glass at resisting scratches, though, and the air ring around the edge is annoying.
