RhinoShield is known for rugged cases, and the SolidX has been in my tests before. For the iPhone 18 Pro, RhinoShield changed the design slightly. During the test I noticed a detail you really need to watch when buying: the SolidX comes both with and without a MagSafe magnet.

First Impression

The SolidX is made from a single piece, and there’s now an extra edge on the rim. There are no accessories in the box. My first impression was okay, but no more than that. What bothered me right away was the sound of the buttons. They click audibly, and a lot of buyers complain about it in reviews too. It comes in black, blue and burgundy, to match the new iPhone colors.

Light, but Thick

The case looks thick, and it is. The surprise is the weight. At just 39 grams it weighs the same as the much slimmer OtterBox Symmetry, because RhinoShield uses a very light material. Even so, the iPhone feels chunky in the hand. If you like slim cases, this one won’t make you happy.

Feel and Buttons

The surface is slightly textured and grippy, so the iPhone doesn’t slip out of your hand easily. Fingerprints barely showed on my color, though they might be more visible on black. The buttons press very well, just with that click. The cutouts are well placed, and nothing is covered. Camera Control works with single and double presses, light presses, swipes and the shutter.

Protection

This is RhinoShield’s strength. The screen lip stands well proud, and the camera protection is very good too. I’d call the SolidX a half hard shell, since you can barely squeeze it in the middle. What’s missing is an inner lining. The inside is smooth, so if a grain of sand gets between case and phone, it can scratch the back. If you want to protect the screen as well, you’ll find recommendations in my test of iPhone 18 Pro screen protectors.

MagSafe: No Magnet in My Version

MagSafe charging works, because the case doesn’t block charging. The holding strength, however, comes only from the iPhone’s own magnet, not from the case, because my version has no MagSafe ring of its own. That’s why there’s no comparable result from the pull test. The SolidX also comes in a MagSafe version, which just wasn’t available on Amazon when I bought mine. If you use MagSafe accessories like car mounts or power banks, make sure you get that version.

Price

My version without the magnet cost about $42. The MagSafe version is currently around $49. For a one-piece case without an inner lining, I think both are too expensive.

Verdict

The RhinoShield SolidX is a good case for anyone who cares more about protection than a slim profile. It’s light and grippy and protects the screen and camera very well. The clicking buttons, the missing inner lining, the bulk and the price count against it. And definitely buy the MagSafe version. In my final ranking it was cut on feel. The cases that made the final round are in my iPhone 18 Pro case roundup.
