This iPhone case costs 30 dollars.
And this one here… only 10 dollars.
The problem is:
They look almost exactly the same.
And that made me wonder:
Are expensive phone cases just a complete rip-off… or is there actually more behind them?
So I tested both of them — with a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max.
And honestly, this video surprised me way more than I expected.
First Impressions of Both Cases
Right out of the box, both cases feel incredibly similar.
The material, shape and overall design are almost identical.
Both cases include:
- A hard back design
- Camera and display protection
- MagSafe support
- Buttons with a nice clicky feel
- Compatibility with all screen protectors
For this test, I once again used the large edge-to-edge ROXX screen protector that fully covers the corners of the display.
And honestly:
With my eyes closed, I probably wouldn’t even know which case I was holding.

The Differences Between Torras and TOCOL
Of course, there are still some differences.
And those small details are exactly why the Torras case costs almost three times more.
The buttons on the Torras case are definitely better made and feel more premium.
Torras also includes interchangeable buttons, which is something you rarely see in this price category.
The frame of the Torras case also feels slightly stiffer and more solid.
In addition, the Torras case includes a dedicated camera button.
On the cheaper TOCOL case, you can sometimes visibly notice the glue seams.
Interestingly, the TOCOL case actually offers slightly better camera protection.
The MagSafe strength, however, felt almost identical on both cases.
So in the end, the biggest difference is mainly this:
A 19-dollar price difference.

Does More Expensive Really Mean Better?
And this is where the video became really interesting.
Because the cheaper TOCOL case is MUCH closer to the Torras case than I originally expected.
Material, fit, protection and overall everyday feel are far more similar than the price difference would suggest.
Both cases honestly feel surprisingly close in daily use.
And that clearly shows how strongly some brands nowadays mainly sell through branding.
Still, you can definitely notice in many small details that the Torras case is overall better refined.
The buttons feel better.
The frame feels sturdier.
And overall, the case simply feels more polished and premium.
The real question is:
Are those differences actually worth 19 dollars?
Which Case Would I Personally Choose?
Honestly:
For most people… probably not.
If you simply want a good iPhone case with MagSafe and decent protection, the cheaper TOCOL case will probably be completely fine.
But:
When you use a 1500-dollar iPhone every single day, you eventually start noticing those small quality differences.
And that is exactly why I would personally still choose the Torras case.
Not because it is three times better.
But because it simply feels a little more premium and more refined overall.
And honestly, that is often the real difference between a cheap case… and a premium one.
